Episode #9: “We managed to put Brazil on the map”
30 Oct, 2024
Wine is not “new” in Brazil, but its wine culture, and the wine market, are definitely still in their infancy. However, it is growing…
At InnVernia, where I serve as the Business Development Director, we have thrilled guests by offering the chance to watch a winery start from scratch.
This is something that normally occurs behind closed doors, and visitors have delighted in events like the “Plant your own Vine” experience.
In a similar fashion, you do not often get the chance to watch a market that has the potential to become one of the largest and most dynamic wine markets in the world, effectively start from scratch. Right now, this is happening simultaneously in Brazil, India and, I believe, Nigeria. These are the 7th, 1st and 6th largest countries by population. In terms of wine consumption, Brazil is listed as the 13th largest wine market; India and Nigeria do not even list in the Top 100 (all statistics from worldpopulationreview.com).
While I am a little biased about Brazil, its head-start regarding wine consumption, and the Brazilian people’s way of life make Brazil a particularly exciting country to watch. After my last visit, seeing everything that is happening, I HAD to reach out to Paulo Brammer, one of the leaders of the charge in Brazil, to hear his thoughts on the Brazilian market.
I hope you all enjoy.
